About

Neighborhood House Community Center is located in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison, Wisconsin.  In 1916, an undergraduate thesis by a University of Wisconsin student proposed the creation of an organization to meet the needs of a growing number of immigrant families in the Greenbush area.  That organization became the first, and remains the oldest, community center in Madison: Neighborhood House.  Henry Barnbrock Jr. probably never imagined where his proposal would lead, but we’re hoping he at least received a good grade.

Today Neighborhood House continues the tradition of welcoming community members and bringing people together.  Whether you grew up in the old Greenbush neighborhood or just recently moved here from another country, we’re happy to meet you and glad you’re here.
