Housewarming Baskets

Housewarming Baskets serve individuals and families in Dane County who are moving into apartments and need to furnish it.

The targeted population is individuals who have recently left being unhoused or are experiencing unstable living situations. We work directly with other service providers to identify families in need.

Service providers or Neighborhood House staff can sign up clients to receive a basket with household items. All household items will be new or gently used and should be picked up by staff at Neighborhood House. Limit one basket per household per year.

Not all requests can be accommodated.

Contact Sarah at sarah@neighborhoodhousemadison.org with questions.

Transportation

Due to changes in funding, NHCC will no longer be offering a gas card option for our transportation assistance program. We will continue to open applications for bus passes on a quarterly basis. The application will be available to fill out in person or online. Applicants can receive one pass per year and priority is given to new applicants.

Dates for the 2025 Transportation Assistance Bus Pass Application are:

Monday June 16 3:30 – 6:00 pm (at NHCC or online)

Monday September 15 3:30 – 6:00 pm (at NHCC or online)

Monday December 15 3:30 – 6:00 pm (at NHCC or online)

Please note that NHCC DOES NOT have bus passes on hand to hand out outside of application windows.

After applying, applications are reviewed and then individuals are contacted if they will be receiving a pass or not.

Passes are then available for pick-up at the office or mailed to recipients via USPS. After passes are distributed, we CANNOT issue a second pass. This means if there are issues with the mail, we will not be sending another one.

School Supplies

In need of free school supplies for your students? You’ve come to the right place!

NHCC distributes school materials before the start of the school year, usually at the end of August and beginning of September.

We offer a variety of general items.  Some examples are: paper, pencils, markers, folders, erasers, glue, scissors, tissues, notebooks, binders, and pens. We have limited amounts of more classroom specific items like headphones, notecards,  items in specific colors, etc.

Children must be present at handout.

Help us collect school supplies!

This is a great opportunity for student groups, churches, or businesses! Contact info@neighborhoodhousemadison.org to set up a collection.

Thank you!

Thanksgiving Baskets

Last Thanksgiving NHCC handed out baskets to over 400 families!

Basket hand out is on the Monday before the holiday. Sign-up is required to get a basket and opens in October

Baskets have a turkey, fresh and canned veggies, dessert items, fruit, stuffing, and paper products. Not every basket is exactly the same.

Filling out the form does guarantee you will receive a basket.

We always look for donations!

Contact info@neighborhoodhousemadison.org if your group wants to collect food and items for the baskets. This is a great opportunity for student orgs, churches, and businesses!

Holiday Gifts

We start looking for sponsor families in November. You can choose the family size you would like to sponsor and are given a list of child age, gender, and interests. Then, presents are dropped off at NH.

Stocking Stuffers

NHCC will host a stocking stuffer hand out of smaller gifts to families in December. Sign up below to receive more info.
